The Hokkoku Shimbun In 1979, Hokkoku Shimbun planned a fast computerized editing system. In 1981, Hokkoku Shimbun started "HELIOS" which was the first computerized full page editing system in Japan and issued quick, accurate and beautiful newspapers for subscribers. In 1991, Mr.Hidekazu Tobita took office as the President of Hokkoku Shimbun and made an effort to establish the multimedia information industry around newspaper as the second foundation stage of Hokkoku Shimbun. In the same year, the Hokkoku Shimbun Kaikan which has twenty-one stories was completed and Toyama Shimbun Kaikan which has seven stories was completed in the following year. The Hokkoku Shimbun has been tied up with the L'EST REPUBLICAIN of Nancy City, France, Suzhow Daily News of Suzhow City, China, JORNAL DO NIKKEY of Sao Paulo, Brasil and exchanged articles and reporters. In addition to that, The Hokkoku Shimbun has cooperation agreement with ITAR-TASS of Moscow City, Russia. Hokkoku Shimbun issues about 350,000 morning papers (including those of Toyama Shimbun) and about 77,000 evening papers daily. The morning paper subscription covers about 70% of all in Ishikawa Prefecture. It indicates that about 7 out of 10 families subscribe to Hokkoku Shimbun.
